Welcome to our Cadillac Pages

These pages contain a variety of information about our car in particular, but also other history, links and photos about classic Cadillacs in general.

Our 1947, series 75, Imperial Sedan has been in the family since the mid-1960's. During that time it has always been garaged, so it's in very sound condition. The car came into my possession when Dad decided that after 35 years he would like his garage back.

Pics above are of the car in Dad's garage, prior to trucking it down to Iowa City. The tires were as hard as rocks and I had to have them cut off before I had new white wide sidewalls installed (new pics coming soon). The car is in very good condition, but unrestored.  Dad purchased it about 1967 and at that time drove it 120 miles home. I was about 14 years old at the time and I remember the ride as smooth and uneventful. Of course with 48,000 original miles there weren't too many mechanical concerns.

I'm very fortunate that for years my folks had a HUGE stock of NOS parts for cars from the 20's through the 60's. They recently got out of that business, but pulled a lot of parts for this car before selling their remaining inventory. Those parts currently fill a small room in my basement and include such things as new wheel cylinders and repair kits, rebuilt fuel pump, after market fog lights, spot lights, complete carb, etc. etc.

Dad has worked on it off and on and has most of the work done. A hydraulic window line had burst prior to him acquiring it and much of the interior upholstery had to be replaced. Dad also repainted it a decade or two ago and the years in storage in a cramped garage means I will paint it again at some point. But for now, it's in good enough condition that for the most part my initial plans are simply to get it in running condition and back together..

The body is completely straight except it seems that the owner prior to Dad compensated for a brake line leak, by driving the car between two small trees and using the friction of the running boards to stop the car. Even that damage is minor though and limited to just the outside edge of the running boards. I've had the car since the fall of 2001, and started work on it in June of 2002. So far, sons Tyler and Tim have helped me solve fuel pump and vacuum problems and we got 'er started and drove around the block with it! Still have a brake system overhaul to do before I want to drive it much more though :-).
